What is Fitness?

I believe in the passionate pursuit of growth toward our own human potential. My company, Blues City Strength, exists to help you become the strongest version of yourself. Whether you are new to fitness or a competitive athlete looking for an edge, we meet you at your level and work to take you to where you want to be. A fitness program should enhance your life, NOT consume it. It should allow you to do MORE of what you love. Ultimately, fitness is about leading an inspired life through movement so that you can contribute to the betterment of your own life, and that of the community around you.

This is done through the dedicated practice of functional movement. Functional movement allows us to do the things our bodies were designed for, while functional training teaches our bodies to apply what we learn inside the gym to our life on a daily basis. This kind of training involves running, jumping, throwing, pushing, pulling, picking things up, rotating side to side, to name a few. In teaching functional training, we pay close attention to form, ensuring that you perform these movements as effectively as possible.

We don't use machines. We consider our body to be the machine we train to be capable of doing more work in less time each day. We seek an ever increasing level of fitness through a balanced approach and don’t emphasize any one physical skill over another. We want to be strong and fast; we want to be powerful and flexible; we want great balance, accuracy, agility, stamina and endurance.

I am originally from Hyde Park, Chicago. My first love is baseball. I attended Whitney Young H.S where I excelled, earning All-City and All-State honors. I played Division 1 Baseball at Miami (OH) and UIC. After spending a year abroad in Spain, I returned to the U.S. to finish my degree in English Literature at Ithaca College. I continued my love of baseball, playing and coaching professionally overseas in Brunswick, Germany, as well as in Barcelona, competing in Spain’s National League and for the European Cup. I was named Club Head Pitching Coach and ran the pitching program for the Clubs four youth teams.

I began fitness training in Madison, WI in 2012. I worked and trained with amazing clients and colleagues, achieving powerful and lasting health and fitness results. My passion for professional growth and development lead me to CrossFit Farmland’s Elite School of Fitness. Here, I trained as an athlete, eventually becoming a full time coach and Boot Camp Director upon completing Farmland’s Instructor Training Program and earning my CrossFit Level 1 and 2 certifications. I am thrilled to be back in the Hyde Park community, and I can't wait to work with you!

Hi! My name is Mart Brewer and The Space is my home. I work with clients one on one; I train duos and small groups, and I teach circuit training classes four times a week (see schedule for times!). I’d love to show you what I do; first class is always on me.

Philosophy

Success for both trainer and client is determined almost exclusively by the compatibility between us. If you, as my client, trust me wholly as your trainer, we can work together to help get you to your goal. The most genuinely rewarding part of what I do is watching my clients get better each week; improve and reach goals in ways he or she wasn’t sure was possible. I take time to understand each client from a holistic point of view: what are your needs emotionally, mentally, and physically? What motivates you, both intrinsically and extrinsically? I’m interested in understanding YOU and what makes you move! I’d love to meet you; lets get going!

My name is Emmanuel Noelliste and I am a Master Personal Trainer of 12 years. I have worked with so many different people, from 9 years of age to 90. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, I will teach you everything I know; I want you to succeed! I will create an individual plan for you, based on your approximate body composition, as well as your comfort level and ability to push past the limits you may have already set for yourself. Much of my work is done in groups; I will teach you exactly how to perform each exercise with proper form and biomechanics; we will keep track of your progress so that you can improve each week, while walking through each step of the program. Together, we can create the body and life you are most passionate about sustaining!
